Would You Drink a Bacon Milkshake?

Once upon a time, bacon was a side dish for eggs. Now it's a milkshake flavor.

The California-based fast food chain, Jack in the Box, is selling a limited-edition indulgence not everyone will want to try.

The Bacon Shake consists of vanilla ice cream, whipped cream, a maraschino cherry and "bacon flavored syrup." Based on the ingredients-sugar, preservatives, artificial flavors, a whole lot of salt-there's not an ounce of actual bacon in there.

But a 24 ounce cup does manage to pack a lot of calories. 1,081 to be exact. On the up side, it's got 17 grams of protein.

But how does it taste? "Horrific" according to Brock Keeling, a blogger at SFist, who to took the meat-flavored milkshake for a test-drive. " A heavy, lingering bland with a touch of smoke that doesn't go away," is how he describes each gulp.

Has anyone actually tried this?

Outside of fast food, Bacon has become a big favorite for dessert fiends with dare-devil palates. Artisan chocolate boutiques have added the smoke to their bars and morsels. Bacon-infused donuts, cookies and cupcakes are also making their way into bakeries across the country. No room left your stomach? There's a bacon-scented cologne to absorb through your pores, while you're busy digesting lunch.

No, I would not drink a Bacon milkshake. Neither would I partake in Bacon donuts, cookies and cupcakes. Bacon and eggs for breakfast occasionally is okay. But ingesting Bacon in the form of swine swill or an edible dessert is something that would immediately cause me to regurgitate.

What's next a Pepto Bismol milkshake? Sorry about my grumpiness. But I guess I'm just not that enlightened when it comes to experimenting with my taste buds.

I love bacon. I love it on sandwiches, cheeseburgers, and baked potatoes. I love it with eggs or toast. I also love ice cream. But I'm not sure that I can quite make this leap either. Bacon and ice cream together? I'm not sure. That said, if offered a free bacon milkshake I would give it a go just out of curiosity

yes I would.

As I sit here and munch on candied bacon. I make a caramel bacon sauce for my ice cream and it is yummy. Candied bacon butter is really good on french toast, bagels, pancakes etc. I would love to try a milkshake but alas none around me.

Candied bacon butter on french toast sounds yummy! Still not sure I can make the leap to bacon ice cream (especially artificial bacon-flavored ice cream) but I definitely think I might give that (the french toast) a try sometime

it is real easy to make at home, I use real bacon....caramel sauce, and with hot sauce just blend it into the ice cream.

Bacon + ice cream = mmmmmmmgood

Absolutely yes, yes, yes. My wife's sister works at a bakery in Athens, GA and brought me an "Elvis" last time we visited. Bacon, banana, and peanut butter donut. MMmmmmm. As far as a bacon milkshake goes, I have tried this, so there is no doubt in my mind I'd try that. Can't say I'd do the cologne though.

On a side note, I saw that other Moose earlier, the Marty one, and mistook him for you. I thought I had been defriended. "That stinkin' rascal," I thought... good to see you are still blue. Here's to bacon.

Haha that actually confused me once too. I was like "I don't remember writing this" and than I realized it wasn't me. I'm a smart one.
